I've only been collecting for a few months and I want to see how the veterans feel about cans with local panels (i.e. discount admission to the fair, etc). I'm not talking about when the soda company is promoting a movie. I'm just wondering if cans that have ads (from the local bottler) are of any special value and in fact, does the local panel sometimes take away from the real design? Or do most collectors consider them just different enough that they should be part of the collection?

Personally, I collect them all as different cans even thought the main design of the can is the same. They also have different codes on the side next to the panels for Coke and Pepsi products.

Hi and welcome to the forum. To me, these are different cans. You will notice, that each collectors has his/her own criteria on what makes a can different. These ads can make a can special, if the ad is local and if there are not many other collectors that have this can for trade/sale. But most recent cans are not worth much, as there are many around.

And if you think of it another way - these cans are much more rare then "national" cans, even though some people don't care much about them.
Of course it's fun when for example, Coke has their summer series of cans this part year - I tried to keep 6 cans of each. So I have 6 normal "Kite" cans, and then 6 "kite w/ Six Flags" on it.
Right now myself, cans are just being boxed up and thrown into storage with the rest of my cans - but someday I hope to have the room to bring everything back out - and I will have an 'extended' set to trade with these small varieties in there, which myself I like to see.
.... kind of like the cans from New York which has "new york" around the rim for recycling purpose. And some states, like Iowa (I think) have different color tabs on the cans - again for recycling purposes. Many small "varieties" out there....
