Arcadia Brewing Co., of Battle Creek, started releasing its seasonal wheat ale Whitsun in cans in the Kalamazoo area this week. The beer was to hit shelves earlier this spring, but work on expansion projects delayed introduction of the canning line, founder Tim Suprise said. The canned beer is available at the brewery now and should start appearing on store shelves throughout the week, Suprise said. By sometime this weekend, Suprise said, the expansion should be completed and will increase the brewery’s potential production capacity from 9,000 barrels a year to about 14,000, or a 35 percent growth, Suprise said. Arcadia is the fifth brewery in the state to offer craft beer in cans. Bell’s Brewery Inc. also is expected to begin canning next spring.
Whitsun is released in the spring and summer. By going to cans, Suprise said, he will be able to move into markets where his bottles can’t go, including golf courses, concert venues, sporting events and boating. Arcadia purchased its canning equipment line from the Maui Brewing Co., of Hawaii, which recently upgraded to a bigger, faster production line. Suprise, who said the six packs will be sold for about $8.99, also plans to roll out at least one other Arcadia product in cans this fall.Source: www.mlive.com
