What website features/functionality would you like to see added or updated at CanMuseum.com?

I would love to be able to search on certain "keywords" in the can database. For example, I like the Disney cans that Coke put out years ago: popcan.org/set-disney15.htmlI would love to just search "Disney" - or maybe "Smurf" for the smurf cans that Pepsi put out in Europe years ago to see if there are any of those cans in the database.

This is a great idea and we hope to get this to you soon. In the meantime, there is a way to do this through google right now: For images: images.google.comThen search with the following: canmuseum.com: disney For can pages: www.google.comThen search with the following: canmuseum.com: disney It's not a great solution, but at least it will show you some cans inthe museum. Our goal will be to implement an Advanced Search in which you can type in text that will search all fields (including the description), and searches based on Theme, Series, Material, etc.

1. Would anyone be interested in a member-only feature that showed you names/links on a can detail page to other collectors who have that can available for trade?
2. How about another member-only feature that would allow you to build a trade request by selecting cans from another member's trade list to a "new trade", which contacts them with your requested cans and prompts them to choose cans from your list?
3. Another idea for another member-only feature is to allow for a download of your entire online collection data (with the option of photos), in Excel format for a backup/personal use?
Please reply to this post with your thoughts on this idea or talk about ideas you have. We want the next features we build to be the most requested from our members. Please let us know what you want so we can make the can museum even better!

Guys, I think you are doing a great job on the site. I think the ideas you have mentioned would be great features. I would love to be able to add a can to my collection from the database, but be able to use/attach my own picture to it.

cokeguy - that's an interesting idea. I have to give that some thought about how to pull that off. What would be the reasoning behind wanting the photo(s) of your can to show instead of the museum's photo(s)?
Also, thanks for the feedback and we're glad you like the museum. Thank you for continuing to add cans!

What would be the reasoning behind wanting the photo(s) of your can to show instead of the museum's photo(s)? A collector on another forum pointed out that (especially with older cans) a picture of your own can, helps to check on tradeshows if another can, will be an upgrade for the can in your collection. There are cans from the 1930's - 1950's where there are only 1 or 2 cans known in good condition. However if a can in your collection is in good condition, there will be no need for a picture of your own can and the pictures in the canmuseum can be used.
Regards
Allcans

Right. Some of the pictures on the museums website are older scanned pictures.....and rather than ask for constant changes to existing cans by upgrading photos (too much work for you guys), a person can see the condition of their own collection better with their own photos. Also, I am looking forward to doing trades in the future, but my trade cans may not be of the same condition as the ones shown on the museum.

If you (or anyone else) has a better picture of a can then the one in the CanMuseum, please update this can with this better picture. We want in the CanMuseum the best pictures available. When I started with taking pictures, the pictures where not so good. Over the years I have been getting better at it Also, I am looking forward to doing trades in the future, but my trade cans may not be of the same condition as the ones shown on the museum. If you look at my tradelist, you will see below some of the cans red remarks. These remarks are my trade notes. Here I can let other collectors know about the condition or what I want in return if a can is special. In your case you can tell them about the condition and tell them to ask for the picture of your can for trade. Please note: most cans made later then 1990, will only be traded if the can is in good condition, as there are still many around.
Regards,
Allcans

I also notice that when browsing through the catalog, any can that has been updated has the name of the person who updated the can on the bottom, not who added it. Is there way of keeping the persons name who added the can, as well as the person who modified it on the catalog page? This way I know who added the can in case I have further questions about it, or if I would like to make a trade for that can.....the person updating it may not have as much info, or even have that particular can.

The name below the can in the searches is displayed based on what type of search you do. A regular search will display the name of you added the can. www.canmuseum.com/Search.aspxA Latest Addistions search will also display the name of who added the can. www.canmuseum.com/Search.aspx?SearchType=AHowever, a Latest Updated search will display the name of the last person who updated that can. www.canmuseum.com/Search.aspx?SearchType=U

How about adding a box for the can history or additional information? Some cans, especially prototype cans or test cans have a story or history that would be great to display on the page with the can.
Also, I was wondering why the cans are shown in order of size, rather than by year? Personally, I would rather see a chronological order of cans by year. Its especially relevant for Canadian soda cans which were produced in 2 different sizes for many years, and there are several of the same can, but in 2 sizes. I would prefer to see these cans shown side by side. Just a thought anyways.
As always, thank you for the great work on the site. Is there anywhere we can make donations to help with the cost of hosting the site

Good ideas cokeguy. FYI- For the Search page, the cans are currently sorted like this: Brand, Flavor, Size, Country, Year, Description For the Latest Additions page, the cans are currently sorted like this: Add Date (Newest First), Brand, Flavor, Size, Country, Year, Description For the Latest Updates page, the cans are currently sorted like this: Updated Date (Newest First), Brand, Flavor, Size, Country, Year, Description For the Advanced Search page, the cans are currently sorted like this: Country, Description, Brand, Flavor, Size, Year Perhaps we'll look into a dynamic sorting option so you can change the sorting to what you need in your search. The extra info field is a good idea as well. We are also considering adding more fields for your profile pages like URL, About Me, Photo Gallery, etc. As far as donations go, we don't currently have a way to accept donations. Allcans and I will have to discuss that possibility. Allcans (Netherlands) and I (United States) have donated our time to building and maintaining this site and we want to keep it free for everyone. Allcans is the main guy behind the concept of the site and continues to be the main contributor of cans. I am the web programmer. We both volunteer hours of work because we want collectors to have a place to go to see cans, trade cans, get info about cans, read news about cans, etc. There is an endless supply of work with new cans coming out all the time, and the need to add our collections to the museum. Personally, I have only entered about 300 cans, but I probably have 10,000 - 15,000 in my collection...all sitting in boxes in my basement. This alone being a time-consuming process is why we appreciate everyone that has taken the time to contribute their cans to the museum. Thanks for your help and feedback. We really appreciate it.

I would love a feature to see for every can, how many and which members have it in their collections and trade lists. This way you can more easily find the cans you're looking for, and contact other members for trading.
As for a donation button, Perhaps you an Allcans could share a Canmuseum PayPal account. PayPal has a freely available donation option.
I was also thinking of maybe adding the ingredients as described on the back of the can, but then I realized that doesn't have alot to do with the can itself, so never mind that.

I just noticed that the Twitter/Facebook/Google+ tidbits on the canpages are annoying and unorganized. Could you perhaps move them inside the infobox to the right? Or at least to the bottom of the page?
